Level 1 chimney inspections meet the basic inspection requirements of homes that use modern gas and electric home heating systems, as well as solid fuel fireplaces. You may not use your chimney to vent wood or coal smoke. However, as a physical structure, a chimney is still susceptible to weather damage, damp, and general structural damage.

During Level 1 chimney inspections, Clean Sweep chimney experts inspect all readily accessible chimney areas.

  • Inspections assess the structural integrity of chimney interiors and exteriors. In every case, we ensure that chimneys are architecturally stable and that no signs of damp or loose brickwork are present.
  • With all basic inspections, we verify that the inside flue of a chimney is free of obstructions and combustible materials.
  • All basic chimney inspections see our technicians check connections between chimney structures and current heating appliances.

At present, home insurers expect homeowners to carry out the equivalent of a basic chimney inspection at least once a year. However, it is important to note that if you have recently made a change to your home heating system, you will require a more thorough inspection.

Our service technicians will provide a Level I inspection based on the needs of your usage of your fireplace. This inspection is recommended only if you are using your chimney with the exact same conditions and with the exact same appliance. Only the portions of your chimney that are readily accessible, including the exterior, interior and accessible portions of the fireplace and your chimney connection will be inspected. Soundness of the structure of chimney and flue will be checked. We will check your basic appliance installation in addition to verifying that the chimney is free of combustible deposits and obstructions.

A level I chimney inspection consists of a thorough visual check of the fireplace and chimney. The trained inspector will look for damage, obstructions, soot and creosote buildup. This inspection may result in the need for Chimney Sweeping services which we may then provide to you.

If you have not changed anything about your appliance and you have been regularly scheduling chimney sweepings, then this inspection is for you.

If you use your fireplace regularly then you need a Level I inspections at least once a year to check for deposits, clearances and soundness. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs will be done if necessary.

The cost for this inspection is $229. Then if a cleaning is recommended then the total amount is $299.
