Chimney Swifts are small cigar shaped migratory birds that pass through our area in the Spring looking for nesting sites. As their name indicates chimney swifts build their nests and raise their young almost entirely in chimneys. If your chimney does not have a proper chimney cap you may be inviting swifts to spend the summer with you. Chimney Swifts are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1916. Once they have built a nest inside your chimney nests, eggs and birds can not be disturbed. (If this happens be sure to close your damper to keep them from entering your house!) While chimney swifts are beneficial for eating insects they are also very noisy guests to have inside your chimney. While most swifts will leave you chimney in a few months, they leave behind nests and debris that can block your chimney and cause problems.
Installing a chimney cap is the best way to prevent chimney swifts and other animals from calling your chimney home. A chimney cap does exactly that, it covers the top of your chimney and keeps animals, debris and weather out of your chimney. Chimney caps come in lots of different options from stainless steel to copper caps that accent your chimney. All of our stainless steel chimney caps come with a lifetime warranty.
Call or request an appointment or quote to install a chimney cap before the swifts arrive and receive a 10% discount off labor and installation of a new chimney cap or chase cover!
